Skiing below Cypress Peak (way below, didn't even get to the glacier).
Excellent snow, weather and skiing.
Three days at Keith's Hut.
We carried the skis all the way up, dug some holes, searched for beacons, skied the Anniversary Glacier, watched a metre of snow fall, and skied almost all the way back to the highway (minus the switchbacks).
It was "snowing wolves and cougars" (-Piotr) so the camera stayed in the bag most of the time.
The first turns off the year...
6km with skis on the back? Well worth it.
The VOC "glacier school" on the Anniversary Glacier.
A two day attempt at Garibaldi. We had two groups (from Red Heather, Brohm Ridge) meet at camp below Atwell on Saturday evening. On Sunday we swapped car keys before all attempting Garibaldi, most of us (4/7) settled for the Dalton Dome while the others summited Garibaldi and descended down the NE ridge to the vehicle at Brohm Ridge.
The annual VOC Mountaineering Camp, held at Wedgemount Lake.
Our group climbed Mount Cook on Saturday and left a day early on Sunday due to rain.
An afternoon day hike up Black Mountain.
A weekend at Valentine lake to watch the Perseid meteor shower and climb Mount Saxifrage and Cassiope.
On Saturday afternoon we scrambled up the W ridge of Saxifrage and back down the SE ridge to the Saxifrage/Cassiope col. We decided to skip Cassiope due to a mix of snow/hail/rain shortly after leaving the Saxifrage summit.
That evening the four of us sat around camp with a fire, on and of…
Three days at Lake Lovely Water over the August long weekend.
The middle day 6 of us attempted (and failed) scrambling up the west ridge of Alpha Mountain. The other 4 in the group successfully climbed the east ridge.
Before heading out Monday, the less-tired group of 6 summited Mount Pelops and Mount Niobe before hiking out.
Three days at the Himmelbach Hut, scrambling up Whirlwind and Fissile peaks.
Due to a VOC-house party Friday, we left Vancouver a little late Saturday morning, arriving at the Whistler gondola at noon instead of the 10am we originally planned.
It was fairly cloudy at the top of the gondola, spitting rain once in a while as we hiked past Picollo and over Flute. The clouds started to break up for…
A weekend at Eaton Lake hoping to summit Mount Grant and Eaton Peak.
After hiking up Saturday we started toward Eaton peak. The initial stretch through the trees was a slow bushwhack before reaching the snow. We turned around shortly before the ridge, failing to make the summit.
Laziness kicked in on Sunday. We slept in and made a late start down for an early dinner in Chilliwack.
